Qualitative research training
About this training course
This online short course has been developed by SiREN for public health professionals in WA. This course will provide you with an introduction to qualitative research. You will learn about the research ethics process, different types of qualitative research methods, including creative approaches and qualitative data analysis. Practical resources and tools will be provided to support you to extend or apply your learnings.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Understand when ethics is required and what is involved in the ethics process.

Define qualitative research and explain its key features and methods.

Understand how to effectively design and conduct a qualitative interview and focus group.

Identify creative research methods and their strengths and considerations.

Describe approaches used to analyse and report qualitative data.
The course will be delivered in six modules, each approximately 20-30 minutes in length. Modules will be released every fortnight on a Tuesday. The modules include:
Module 1: Research, evaluation, and ethics
Module 2: Introduction to qualitative research
Module 3: How to undertake a qualitative interview
Module 4: How to lead a focus group
Module 5: Introduction to creative methods
Module 6: Analysing and reporting data
